| Introduction: |
Today the "media" means the Internet, TV, movies and radio, with newspapers and magazines as an afterthought. But a few generations ago, the "press" reigned supreme. The Catholic Church in Hong Kong needed to avail itself of the high tech of that era. So the Church Report, Kung Kao Po in Cantonese Romanization, or the KKP for short, was launched in 1928 as a Catholic weekly. Who was involved in this project? What earlier models did they imitate? What obstacles did they face? The eye-catching parts of this book are reproductions of the first editions of the KKP, and of Catholic art in Chinese style, 1928-1931. |
